We welcome employees from local companies who would like to help us with nature reserve management. We can accommodate groups of up to 15 people.
As a small charity with a limited income we do make a charge for employee volunteering days of £20 per head. This is to cover setting up and running the day and a contribution towards general costs such as tools & PPE purchase.
Here is a guide to regular activities by season. We may have other tasks depending on what is happening on the reserve at the time.
Spring | Path maintenance, litter picking |
Summer | Himalayan Balsam pulling, path maintenance, grass raking, litter picking |
Autumn | Path clearance, reed cutting, scrub cutting |
Winter | Reed cutting, scrub cutting |

Facilities
We do not have any toilet facilities on the reserve. We can provide cold water, soap and hand-gel for handwashing. The nearest toilets are at Morrisons or the Wheatpieces pub and we are happy for people to leave the task at any time to use these.
Clothing, PPE and tools
Participants will need to wear clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty. Boots are preferable to trainers. Wellies are recommended during winter (and any time that water levels are high) and may be essential for some tasks. We can supply gardening-type gloves but if participants are able to bring their own they may be more comfortable.
We will supply all other tools, equipment, and PPE.
Safety
Tewkesbury Nature Reserve will carry out a risk assessment ahead of your visit and supply a copy to your company contact. The task leader will run through this with participants at the beginning of the day and monitor the group during the day to make sure everything is running safely.
Postponements
We would aim to proceed in light rain but heavy rain would likely cause a postponement. Being on the floodplain, the reserve is liable to flooding which is the most likely reason for postponement, particularly from autumn to spring. If your company needs to postpone for any reason, please give us as much notice as possible, and we will work with you to find a new date.
